*Gonna Dig Myself A Hole . . . ‘n’ bury myself in it” is the dramatic story of Sheppard (Shep) James Michaels, a Midwestern corn farmer, whose past holds deep secrets that are unknown to his family until a tragic event brings them together again. As they explore a cache of Shep’s private journals and musical recordings, they learn of man who ran away from home at the age of 16 and met the man who would change his life forever… Bluesman Tin Can Willie Thomas. The original soundtrack embedded within the novel augments the adventure with songs and stories as written and told by the fictional characters, and provides the reader with a unique and interactive experience. The soundtrack contains 30 original songs written and performed by some of the world’s greatest artists including 5x Grammy winning singer/songwriter, performers from the Willie Nelson and Family Band for 30 years playing harmonica and bass, former Johnny Cash Band bass player for 10 years, former BB King drummer for 30 years, former singer with Bob Dylan for 7 years and many more great recording artists on the soundtrack.  The App for the novel’s music will be embedded and played at the time of the occurrence of the song in the novel yet the novel itself is not considered a musical.  The app contains performance videos and behind the scenes footage and images of recording sessions which includes intimate moments with the artists.

The music was carefully written in different genres of Blues, Country, Americana and Indie Rock covering the different journeys of the main character, Shep, throughout his life and those of others.  This is the first of its kind novel where the music is written and performed by the fictional characters in the novel with the goal of enriching and deepening the experience of the reader and they experience the lives and emotions of these characters alive within this novel and the right of passage Shep’s surviving dysfunctional family experience as they read and relive his life through his journals and music.
